To Blog or Not to Blog?

To Blog or Not to Blog?

With over 28 million small businesses in the US, how do you make your company stand out amongst the competition?  We now know that 70% of small business owners use social media to market their company, but to win customers over, you need to earn their trust. The best way to flex your industry mental muscles is through blogging. Blogging is one of the most important things that you can do for your business and will make the biggest impact.

I know what you’re thinking, “I don’t have time. I don’t know how. I’m not a writer. I’m a chef, attorney, lion tamer, etc.”  You talk about your business to people all day. You are a pro and you wouldn’t own your own company if you didn’t know a little something about cooking, the law, lions, etc. Well, blogging is simply putting your thoughts in writing. Use this platform as an opportunity to share news about your industry with your customers. Interpret what it means to them or give your opinion on a controversial industry related topic. Ta da! You just wrote a blog! Write about what your customers are interested in.  It doesn’t have to be War and Peace, just informative and compelling.

In addition, search engines love blogs. The more you write fresh, compelling content, the more Google will recognize your site. This will help your SEO, which in turn can help push your website to the top of search engine results.

Blogging doesn’t have to be difficult and like starting any new marketing project, people become paralyzed and don’t know where to start. You can hire a professional to help you set it up and train you how to use your blog. But make sure that the content is your own thoughts and words and that you have the time to commit to the blog. Writing only once in a while won’t build subscribers and many will abandon your blog.

To Blog or Not to Blog? YOU BET!
